Fly Fisher Travel

San Huberto

San Huberto, located north of Junín and San Martín de los Andes, belongs to an old cattle-farming ranch that was created in 1890. The presentday descendants of the pioneer family that founded the ranch still run the estancia as a working ranch.

In the mid-70s, San Huberto was built, and for many years it has been regarded as one of the finest fly fishing destinations in Patagonia. It is located on the Malleo River, one of the most renowned rivers in Patagonia.

Fishing

Perfect for fishing, the winding Malleo carries crystal-clear, easy to wade water. There is a catch-and-release policy and the river has earned a well-deserved reputation as having first-class fishing. Guests have access to the upper course of the Malleo and can enjoy fishing a different beat every time they go fishing.

In addition to the unforgettable fishing in the Malleo’s crystal-clear water at the foot of the Lanín Volcano, the region offers opportunities to fish from boats for example on nearby Lake Tromen. Alternatively, you might want to try a float trip on one of neighbouring rivers such as the Collon Cura where you get to see some outstanding scenery while stopping to fish along the way.

Food and Lodging

The lodge has both single and double rooms and can host up to 16 guests. The number of fishermen is usually restricted to 12 to ensure the conservation of the natural resource.

International cuisine is served in the dining room and all meals are prepared with fresh or organically grown ingredients, most of them produced either on the farm itself or nearby.

Why we rate it

Great scenery and tranquil fishing in a secluded setting.
