Fly Fisher Travel

Bazaruto

The Bazaruto Archipelago is a group of five islands located approximately a third of the way up Mozambique's 2,000km coastline. Unspoiled white beaches, thriving coral reefs and an abundance of gamefish make it the ideal fishing destination. The vast sand flats and shallows around the islands provides the ideal breeding ground for huge schools of baitfish, that provide the sustenance and attraction for the large schools of pelagic and resident gamefish in the area.

Benguerra Island is the second largest of the five islands and is 5km wide and 15km long. It is centrally located in the archipelago and provides the ideal base to explore the extensive reefs in the area, from the Wahoo Pinnacles off San Sebastian in the south to the famed 25-mile reef, north of Bazaruto.

All of the fishing takes place from the 22ft custom-built walk-around catamaran. Powered by twin motors and with experienced fishing guides, it provides the ideal platform to target the full range of species in the area. The fishing is varied and exciting from sight-fishing to teased sailfish or casting to surface-feeding bonito. The boat is ideally suited to fly fishing, and all of the species can be targeted on a fly rod.
