Bella Vista is set on the banks of the Rio Gallegos, the southernmost, large river in Santa Cruz province on mainland Argentina. The lodge itself is located half way up the Rio Gallegos valley in a position overlooking the river.
Bella Vista offers sea trout fishing on the Rio Gallegos with the added bonus of many miles of trout fishing on a beautiful tributary.
The ranch itself extends to some half a million acres offering the ultimate in solitude and privacy from the outside world. The only companions here are rheas, guanacos, foxes, flamingos and a wealth of other wildlife.
Fishing
Bella Vista has access to two distinct fisheries. The principal fishing is on 50km of the Rio Gallegos where sea trout average close to the 10lbs mark and fish of over 20lbs have been landed with some regularity. The river is more difficult to read than the Rio Grande but the guides are knowledgeable and know the channels and runs where sea trout tend to be caught.
In addition to the Rio Gallegos there is a small tributary, the Gallegos Chico, which has about 20km of fishing for wild brown trout. The tributary is extremely narrow in places and has prolific weed growth and is rich in aquatic life making the trout both large and strong. The Chico stretches through a stunning valley landscape and is a must visit during the course of a week.
The Rio Gallegos itself is divided into four beats which are rotated through the eight rods.
